Alexander Heath Nuckolls, 85, who resided on the Independence Highway just west of Galax (Rt 5, Galax), died at his home late Monday night, November 13, 1967.

A retired farmer, he had been in declining health for the past few years.

He was born December 20, 1881, in Grayson County, near Oldtown, to William Swift Nuckolls and Fannie Kinzer Nuckolls.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louella Lundy Nuckolls; eight daughters, Mrs. George Beamer, Mount Airy, NC; Mrs. Marguerite Dickenson, Independence; Mrs. R. T. Avery Jr and Mrs. R. S. Thomas Jr, both of Richmond; Mrs. G. E. Britt, Tampa, FL; Mrs. Raymond L. Gordon Jr, Wilmington, DE; Mrs. Ralph Payne, Hampton, and Mrs. Olen Quesenberry, Galax; two sons, William Swift Nuckolls and Benjamin Floyd Nuckolls, both of Richmond, and two sisters, Mrs. Kemper H. (Annie) Hampton and Mrs. Rhudy B. (Clyde) Couch, both of Galax.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist Church Wednesday at 3:00 pm by D. Sidney McCarty of Mount Airy, NC, a former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Galax, and the Rev Joe Shockley, pastor of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Reavistown.

Interment was in the Nuckolls Cemetery.
