Obituary
******************************************************
Mrs. Frances Kinzer Nuckolls, 81, died at the home of her son, Heath Nuckolls, two miles west of town, Saturday afternoon, after an illness which had made her virtually an invalid for the last two years.

She was the widow of William Swift Nuckolls, who died many years ago, and a daughter of the late Michael Kinzer and wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Turner Kinzer, of near Hillsville, and was the last surviving member of her own family, prominent in Carroll County since Civil War days.

A sister, Mrs. Sally Sutherland, Galax, and two of her seven brothers, Luther A Kinzer, Galax, and the Rev Phillip P Kinzer, of Woodlawn, died several years ago.

Mrs. Nuckolls was the mother of six children, Mike Nuckolls and Heath Nuckolls, Mrs. Kemper Hampton, Mrs. Rhudy B Couch and Mrs. Lelia B Waugh, a daughter of her husband by a former marriage, and Mrs. Edwin W Dodd, Kingsport, TN, who died about five years ago.

A faithful and devout member of the Methodist Church all of her long life, Mrs. Nuckolls was, both by birth and by marriage, a member of the families who were pioneers in the Methodist Church in Carroll and Grayson Counties more than a hundred years ago.

Simple and impressive funeral services were held at the home of Heath Nuckolls, Sunday Afternoon, at 2:00, conducted by the Rev W M Bunts, pastor of the Galax Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev Sidney McCarty, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.

Two favorite hymns, “Home of The Soul” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” were used, and Mrs. Paul H Kapp and Mrs. Glenn Phipps sang “The Land Where We’ll Never Grow Old.”

Francis Nuckolls, Hale Nuckolls, Litrille Hampton, Russell Farnsworth, Harvey Tomlinson, Lance M Todd, and Ned Anderson served as pall bearers.

Mrs. Bernie Hampton, of Norton, Mrs. Russell Farnsworth, Mrs. Clarence Alderman, Mrs. Harvey Tomlinson, and the Misses Ruby Couch and Katherine, Jessie, and Rosamond Nuckolls carried the flowers.

Interment was in the family cemetery at the home of Stephen N Nuckolls, brother-in-law of the deceased.
