Visitation: Will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday morning, October 30, 2006 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to greet visitors.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, October 31, 2006 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Reverend Michael Crouch of the First Christian Church officiating.

Interment: Bluff Creek Cemetery in West Des Moines Township in Mahaska County, Iowa.

Mabel passed away early Friday morning at home at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 15 days.

Mabel Ver Ploeg, daughter of John and Ella McFall LaForce, was born December 12, 1914, at the rural home of her parents in Mahaska County. She attended country school through the eighth grade and later attained her G.E.D. She married Cecil Henry Ver Ploeg on November 24, 1937, in Kirksville, Missouri. They began their life together, farming in Jefferson Township in Mahaska County, where they remained their entire married life and Mabel stayed until her death. Mabel assisted Cecil in the farming operation; she particularly enjoyed raising cattle. In the early 1950s she began driving a school bus for Jefferson Township; she drove for over 30 years, retiring in the 1980's. Mabel was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, where she was a member of the Go-Getters Sunday School Class, the Esther Circle and was one of the first members of the quilting group. She was also a member of the Coal Creek Ladies Aid, the Ideal Club and she held a variety of offices in the D.A.R.

Mable is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Sally & Jack Henderson of Drakesville, IA and Kathleen & Tom Idczak of Rio Verde, AZ; her grandchildren & their spouses: Rex & Alice Critchlow of Oskaloosa; Rick Critchlow of Ottumwa, IA; Jodi & Gene Galloway of Delaware, OH; and J.P. & Marissa Patchett of Gilbert, AZ; and seven great grandchildren: Robin, Brittney & Kale Critchlow; Haylie & Lauren Galloway; and D.J. & Jared Patchett; three sisters: Vera Durham of Simi Valley, CA; Arlene (Glen) Thatcher of What Cheer, IA and Delores (Bill) Goodman of Rose Hill, IA; a brother, Harold LaForce of West Covina, CA; a sister-in-law, Gladys France of Oskaloosa and several nieces & nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Robin L. Critchlow ; three sisters and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund or to Mahaska Hospice.
