SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. The Rev. Eamonn Boland will be celebrant. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary, Thursday at Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia, and continue for one hour prior to the funeral Mass Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements are by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia. Leona M. Chesler, 96, a longtime Eveleth resident, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 4, 1907, in Biwabik, to Edmund and Cecelia (Gogianon) Croteau. She married Andrew Chesler on Oct. 10, 1925, in Eveleth, and lived in Biwabik, Chicago, and Hutter prior to settling in Eveleth in 1949. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth and the Catholic Daughters. Leona worked at the Pic n Pay for many years and was a loving mother, wife and homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Andrew; children, Lee (Joyce) Chesler of Andover, Minn., David (Shirley) Chesler of Mora, Minn., Arlene (Jerome) Gwash of Virginia, and Elaine (John) Postudensek of Babbitt; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James Chesler, and Edmund in infancy; two grandsons; one great-grandson; 11 brothers and sisters.
