Mrs. Leona Mitchell Cornett Nuckolls, 73, wife of Stephen N Nuckolls, prominent and well know citizens of this section, passed away at the Nuckolls Home, a few miles west of Galax, on Thursday afternoon, February 6th, after an illness from pneumonia.

The deceased women was widely connected in Grayson and Carroll Counties. She was a daughter of the late Captain William Cornett, of Elk Creek.

Mrs. Nuckolls is survived by four sons and four daughters, as follows: Mrs. H A Tongren, Chicago, IL, Will and Ben Nuckolls, Hulett, WY; Miss Bertha Nuckolls, Miami, FL, and Mrs. A C Dobyns, Mrs. Dawn DeKalb, and Hale and Earl Nuckolls, Galax. Among the surviving grandchildren is Glenn Pless, Galax.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon, at 2:00, at the home, by Rev W M Bunts, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Galax, and Rev D Sidney McCarty, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Galax.

The services were opened with the singing of the hymn, "My faith Looks Up to Thee," after which a scripture selection was read by the Rev Mr. McCarty. The hymn, "The Old Rugged Cross," was then sung, after which the Rev Mr. Bunts read another scripture selection and made appropriate remarks in regard to the life of the deceased. The service was brought to a close with the singing of the hymn, "How Firm a Foundation."

After the services were concluded, the remains were interred in the Nuckolls Cemetery, near the home.
