John Adams was a follower of Eli Thayer. He took his familly to Ceredo, VA in 1857 to practice new farming techniques and to spread the cause of the abolition of slavery. When Civil War broke out, John was adjutant of the Wayne County Militia and worked hard at gaining recruits for the Union army. He was captured and killed by Rebel Guerrillas in May of 1864. His body was later found riddled with bullets, confirming an execuition. Place and date of actual burial is unknown. I recently found out that being involved with governemt was nothing new to him. From 1845 to 1851 he was town clerk for the town of Franklin, Vermont.
