Maudie Thornton, 98, of Andrews, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.

Maudie was born on November 10, 1912 in Wanpanunka, Oklahoma, Indian Territory, to William H. Cole and Lou Dora Jones Cole. Maudie was married to Ernest George Thornton on November 20, 1932. She was a full-time mother, a dorm mother at Georgia Christian College, volunteered at Andrews Senior Citizen Center, and cherished her work at Permian General Hospital as a Pink Lady.

Maudie was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Ernest George Thornton; daughter, Gladys Darlene Sellers; grandsons, David Dwight Goff and Randy Lee Goff; and great-grandson, Michael Cole Parker.

She is survived by her son, Ernest W. Thornton and wife Ann of Andrews, Texas; daughters, Vonnie and J.W. Smith of Whiteface, Texas, Ann and Frank Goff of Baxter, Tennessee, Virginia and Ted Franklin of Abilene, Texas, Lou and John Lumpkin of Odessa, Texas, and Veta Hicks of Lake Arthur, Louisiana. She has left a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
