Mother of 17 Children Dies

Mrs. Philamena (sic) Catherine Staub, 70, widow of Leo J. Staub, New Oxford, died Saturday from a heart attack at the Wills Eye hospital, Philadelphia, where she had been a patient. Mrs. Staub had been in ill health for the past two years and underwent an operation at the Philadelphia institution on September 16, and was apparently recovering when she was suddenly stricken and died a short while later.

She was a daughter of the late James M. and Caroline Adams Robinson.

Mrs. Staub was born in Adams county and spent her entire life in and around New Oxford. She was a consistent member of St. Mary's Catholic church, New Oxford, and of the Rosary society of the church.

Mrs. Staub was the mother of 20 children, 17 of whom survive her as follows: Giles E. Staub, Easton; Mrs. Earl Strausbaugh and Albert Staub, both of York; Mrs. Glenn Chronister and Mrs. R. Staub, both of Hanover; Mrs. James Conrad, and Mrs. Bernard Lawrence, of McSherrystown; Mrs. Charles Groft, New Oxford R. 1; Cletus A. Staub and John R. Staub, both of New Oxford; Harold Staub, Harrisburg; and Mervin, Michael, Mabel, Catherine, Leo, and Teresa Staub, all at home.

Surviving also are 57 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters, Sister M. Calvaria, of the Order of St. Joseph's, Philadelphia; Mrs. William R. Russell, Sanford, Florida; Mrs. Charles S. Staub, McSherrystown; Mrs. C. A. Brashears and Mrs. John F. Miller, New Oxford, James R. Robinson, and a step-brother, Augustus Robinson, both of New Oxford.

Funeral services wil be held from the late home at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, with a high mass of requiem to follow, in St. Mary's Catholic church. The rector, Rev. Robert D. Hartnett, will be the celebrant. Interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery, New Oxford.
