Sister Calvaria, S.S.J., 98, the oldest member of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Chestnut Hill, died Thursday at St. Joseph’s Villa, to which she had retired in 1955.

Sister Calvaria, the former Lucy A. Robinson, retired after teaching 55 years in the archdiocese of Philadelphia, and diocese of Harrisburg at 15 schools.

She began in 1900 in Philadelphia at Immaculate Conception Elementary School, taught at Ascension Elementary School, and St. Gregory’s and retired from St. Luke’s in Glenside in 1955.

She was born in New Oxford, Pa in 1878, and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph at McSherrystown in February of 1899. In August of 1899, the Sisters at McSherrystown merged with the Sisters in Chestnut Hill.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph’s Villa, Flourtown, on Monday at 3 p.m.

Burial will be in Community Cemetery at Mount St. Joseph’s Convent, Northwestern and Germantown Avenues, Philadelphia.
