Jacob Edward Black was born February 14, 1875 in Kansas. He and his wife, Louise, came to Wyoming in 1930 and homesteaded near Esterbrook. They moved to town in 1940. Mrs. Black died in 1944. Mr. Black left Douglas in 1962 and went to Wheatland to be near a son and daughter.

He died at Evanston March 9, 1968 following a long illness. Graveside services were held in Douglas and interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery.

Survivors include 3 sons, Cyrus of Wheatland; Archie of Tucson, Arizona; and Leonard of Corvallis, Oregon; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Sater of Wheatland and Mrs. Atha Carter of Corvallis, Oregon; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. One daughter preceded him in death.
