MONTPELIER -- Wendell Perry Feinauer, 77, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, at his home in Montpelier.

He was born April 28, 1929, to Christian Fredrick Feinauer and Pearl Nowland. He was known best by his family as "Ben." He attended school in Alton, Idaho, where he graduated valedictorian of his eighth grade class.

Due to his ranching responsibilities, he was late starting school his freshman year. Since he was so far behind, he quit school and went to work for several area ranchers. He also spent time trapping for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Wendell was drafted into the United States Army in 1950, and fought in the Korean War before his honorable discharge in 1952. In 1961, he went to work for Montpelier City, where he was later appointed city superintendent. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1996.

He had always loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He especially loved hunting and fishing.

Wendell is survived by Carole Bradley Feinauer; a son, Jeffrey (Allison); a daughter Nicole Hagley; a loving companion, Laura Higley; his brothers, Earl (Nona) Feinauer and Don (Faye) Kunz; a sister, Shirley Toomer; and six grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, Roy Kunz and his youngest son, Keith Dee Feinauer.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 22, at 11 a.m. in the Matthews Mortuary Chapel, where friends may visit with family that morning from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. The interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery, where military rites will be performed under the direction of VFW Post No. 3884.
