Ruby V. Steele, age 93, of Mattoon, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on July 19, 2006 at Mattoon Health Care Center.
The funeral service honoring her life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Pullen officiating. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 4 – 7 p.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Zion Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Steele was born September 20, 1912 in Big Spring Township, Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Nye and Grace (Storm) Pruet. She married Lawrence M. Steele on September 30, 1939 in St. Louis, MO. He passed away on August 20, 1984.
Survivors include her children, Lawrence David Steele and wife Evelyn of rural Toledo, IL, Patricia Jean DeVore and husband Judson W. of Shelbyville, IL, Donna June DeLong and husband Willard of Mattoon, IL, and Richard Milton Steele and wife Diane of Ft. Wayne, IN; 10 grandchildren, Judson R. Mrs. Steele attended the Bible Baptist Church and was a devoted farm wife. She enjoyed sharing the responsibilities of the farm, tending the animals, gardening, and such. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and cherished time spent with her family.
