John was the son of Edward J. and Elender (Smith) Adamson. Although his tombstone gives only his year of birth as 1866, his death certificate lists the full date noted above. He married Margaret Burk in 1887 and the couple had 10 children. In 1900 John was working as a clerk of the county court in Mt. Vernon, MO, but by 1910 he had moved to Springfield, where he worked as a bank cashier. In 1920 he was a cashier at a bank in Everton, and by 1930 he was listed as a farmer, still living in Everton.
