John Fairfield Hawkins, 84, died Thursday, March 19, 1992, in the Ogden, St Benedicts Hospital, of a lingering illness.

He was born on June 10, 1907 in Fairfield, Utah, the son of William Eli and Georgiana Hill Hawkins.

He married Ruby Spencer on May 16, 1934. They had four children: Richard John, Spencer Eli, DiAnn Vaughn and Kathryn Paula, who was killed at the age 14 in a car accident. John and Ruby were later divorced.

John married Evelyn Gent of Tremonton on September 25, 1964. She died on May 3, 1982.

John was an active Eagle Scout and served a LDS Mission in England. He put himself through college working as a Photographer and Red Cross Swimming Instructor in Logan.
He graduated from the USAC in 1936. After graduation he taught scouting in California and Seminary in Malad, Idaho and Escalante, Utah.

He found joy in selling as he traveled through most of the western states. Few stores along the highways have not heard of John Hawkins, the sunglass and pocket knife salesman. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and kept a beautiful yard and productive garden in Tremonton.

Surviving are his three children; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Grant Hawkins, Oakland, California; and two sisters: LaPreal Moody, San Mateo, California and Georgiana Hardesty, Virginia.

Burial was held in the Bothwell Cemetery, Bothwell, Utah.
