Mrs. Wideman was born March 21, 1934 in Holder, Texas to the late Maggie (Brown) and Claude H. Clardy and died Friday, December 5, 2003 at her residence. She was a member of Shawnee Prairie Baptist Church.
Mary taught in public schools 15 years before coming to Angelina College in l976. She started the women's basketball program there and was the first women's coach at the college. In 1982, she retired from coaching basketball and tennis but continued as an instructor at AC until 1991.
She is survived by her husband, Morris Wideman of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Diane Elledge and Wayne and Stephanie Elledge of Huntington; 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Heather and Riley Elledge; 2 great grandchildren, Joshua and Mackenzie Elledge; brother and sister in law, Max and Dorothy Barker of May, Texas; sister in law, Marie Johnson of Lufkin; sister in law and brother in law, Audie and Robert Piper of Lufkin; brother in law and sister in law, Ron and Janis Wideman of Houston; special caretakers, Vernell Davis and Dorothy DuBose; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jesse Carl Barker, Robert Barker, Carl Wayne Barker, Charlie Rhodes, Mike Love, and Mike Forrest.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin.
