Maxwell Barker,91, passed from this life on January 5, 2022.

A graveside service will be held at the May Cemetery, 2:00 PM, Monday, January 10, 2022, under direction of Heartland Funeral Home, with Mike Hardwick officiating.

Max was born on June 27,1930 in Mullin.

His parents were Byron and Maggie Barker of Mullin.

He grew up in the Brown County area and graduated from May High School in 1948.

After graduation he moved to Dallas to work.

Here he met his future wife, Dorothy Allen Cantrell. They were married on July 22,1949. They had 2 children, Robert Barker and Teresa Cope.

Max worked for many years in the oilfields of west Texas in Crane, Kermit and surrounding areas. In 1966, Max and his family returned to May. He eventually opened his own business, Barker's Garage.

Max was a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept. and operator for the May Water Supply.

He was a member of the May Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy; his son, Robert Barker and wife Cherita; his daughter, Teresa Cope and husband Mike; grandchildren Casey and Heather Barker, Skye and Matt Arrington, Cody Barker, and Chris Guess; great-grandchildren Kassidy Barker, Hayden Barker and wife Shelby, Rachel Arrington, Anna Arrington, Mattie Arrington, Jaxon Arrington, and Jonathan Guess.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and a nephew.
