Hugh Alexander Tucker, 89, of 207 E Pine St, died in the C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge Friday afternoon following an extended illness. He had been a resident here since 1917 and was a former employee of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, retiring in 1955.
Mr. Tucker was born Jan. 17, 1878, on Borbours Creek, Craig County, the son of the late Alexander and Mandy (Mariah) Craft Tucker. He was a member of Granbery Memorial Methodist Church, and was a member of Springwood Lodge No. 278, I.O.O.F.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Jordan Tucker; at home; four sons, Carlyle Tucker, Norfolk, Wilbur L (Dick) Tucker, Arlington, Haldene A. (Pete) Tucker, Covington, and Roby Tucker, Ashboro, NC; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Beatrice) Waddell, and Mrs Guy (Dottie) Vanness, both of Covington, and Mrs. Thomas (Lola) Hall, Nashville, Tenn. Also surviving is a brother W. H. Tucker, of Route 3, 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Ganelle Tucker Taylor preceded him in death in 1963.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the R.M. Loving Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Herbert Hudgins officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Richard Tucker, Harold Tucker, Dickie Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, Darryl Tucker, Durwin Waddell, larry Taylor and Dand Vanness.
Honorary pallbearers will the the Odd Fellows Lodge, and other friends attending services.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 till 9 o'clock tonight.
