Lowell A. Chatfield, 96, lifelong Sherman County, Kansas resident, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Goodland Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 AM MT, at First Christian Church in Goodland, with Reverend Carol Edling Jolly officiating. Burial will be in the Goodland Cemetery. Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel in Goodland, on Friday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT. Memorials may be designated to First Christian Church or Goodland Rotary Club, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.

He was born October 22, 1914, in Sherman County, Kansas, the son of Eddie and Ruby (Drake) Chatfield. He graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1933. On August 4, 1940, he and Thelma (Chambers) were married. He had worked with Sherman County Agriculture Conservation Association, Triple A farm office, OK Rubber Welders, White Machine and Motor Company, and ASCS, in which he retired as director after twenty-nine years of service. His memberships included First Christian Church, Senior Center, Sherman County Historical Society, Sherman County Century Families.

Preceding him in death were his wife Thelma (Chambers) Chatfield, who died March 21, 1993; his infant daughter Jeri Lynn Chatfield; great-grandson Mason Lowell King; adult siblings Oliver Chatfield, Eddie Dean Chatfield, Vera June Murray; two infant siblings.

Surviving family includes daughter Janet Chatfield Johnson and Charley Johnson; grandsons David King and his wife Jennifer; Michael King and his wife Angie; four great-grandchildren Hannah King, Colin King, Carter King, Cooper King; brother Dr. Elton Chatfield; nieces and nephews Christine Owens, Cora House, Karen Vandiver, Kathy Elliott, Lyle Chatfield, Connie Swank, Carol Bless, Virgil Murray, Kent Chatfield, and Roger Chatfield.
