Born December 3, 1918 in Archer City, Texas, she was the daughter of Clyde C. and Anna Mae Gray Covington. On November 23, 1945 she married Melvin "Mel" Ryder in Seymour, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2005.
During World War II Mrs. Ryder worked at Consolidated Airplane Manufacturing Factory. She also worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and was bookkeeper for her husband's business, Mel's Diesel.
Mrs. Ryder was a member of Church of Christ. She was a foster parent and was a big part of her family's life. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, canning and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Renee (Jim) Moss and Melissa Keeley both of Burlington; one son, Earl "Butch" (Nancy) Ryder of Dandridge, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, Jason (Celine) Ryder, Tiffany (Trent) O'Neal, Jeremy (Deana Bell) Moss, Amber (Andrew) Johnson, Wesley (Hannah) Moss, Hannah (Jeirod) Nichting, Carmel (fiancé Josh Kelly) Keeley, Caroline "Nikki" Chumley, Chad (fiancé Miranda) Keeley, Crystal (Greg) Seko and Katherine "Katie" Ryder; 21 great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline "Polly" Alberico of Pueblo, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Melvin Paul and his wife Sharon Ryder; parents; three sisters, Bessie Birdwell, Bobbi Gunther and Jewel Pace; and brother, James William "JW" Covington.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ryder will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25th, in Lunning Chapel. Roddy Tate, Minister of Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
A memorial has been established.
