Jess Melvin, 83 Dies Tuesday at Corvallis Hospital
Jess M. Melvin, 83 passed away Tuesday at Corvallis hospital where he had undergone surgery May 28th. The day previous he had entered Lebanon hospital was transferred to Corvallis.
Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. this Thursday at Miller Cemetery northwest of Scio. There was a good sized attendance. Arthur Van De Zande officiated
Born Feb. 5, 1888 in Trimble , Kentucky he had also lived in Calif. and in Wash. before locating at Scio. He spent two short periods here prior to making his permanent home here in 1950.
He served about two years as policeman in Scio, since then he spent some time operating a second hand store. His failing eyesight effected his activities for several years, but he had previously especially enjoyed fishing and bringing fine catches for self and friends.
Survivors include a daughter Roxanne Rose of Kent, Wash., two brothers Ed of Woodburn, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Leona) Edwards of Scio, Mrs. Kate Kime of Shawnee, Okla., and Mrs. Ella Powell of Lancaster, Calif.
