US Congressman. Born in Forsyth, Georgia, he graduated from the University of Georgia, in 1853, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1861. With the advent of the Civil War, he enlisted as a Private in the Confederate Army, served the entire war and rose to the rank of Captain. After the war, he commenced the practice of law in his home town of Forsyth, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives (1865-67), solicitor general of the Flint Circuit Court (1973-77) and served in the Georgia State Senate, (1878-80, 1884-86). In 1893, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third Congress, serving until 1895. After his term, he was appointed a member of the Dawes Commission to adjust affairs in the Indian Territory, was Mayor of Forsyth, Georgia, in 1910 and judge of the city court, (1913-14). He died at age 79 in Forsyth, Georgia.
