He married Carrie Sophia Swenson on July 9, 1904, in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solomnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She died on September 16, 1929.
Joseph was a farmer and a Bothwell resident since 1906. He was a Counselor and was in the Bothwell Ward Bishopric for six years.
Surviving are his son, Henry A, Bothwell, Utah; 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister and two brothers: Mrs Florence Shaffer, St George, Utah; Ernest Newman, Los Angeles, California; Jeffery Newman, Ogden, Utah; two half-sisters and a half-brother: Mrs Louise Gephart, Mrs Leona Williams, and Henry D (Ike) Newman, all of Tremonton, Utah.
Burial was held in the Bothwell Cemetery, Bothwell, Utah.
