Esteemed Citizen Gone To Rest
Served as Mail Carrier Over 11 Years
Surrounded by his loving friends and family, on March 7, 1924 at his residence in Lake, La., the Celestin Mayers, age 71 years left this world passing away at 10:40 a.m. into the presence of its creator after an illness of three week which he has been confined to his bed. He had not been in good health for several years, but this did not deter him for being about and performing his duty as mail carrier in which for the past years he as faithfully served.
Deceased was one of the most esteemed citizen and his kind and gentle manners were beloved and endeared by all. His death be generally deplored, as he had many friends in every walk of life. Many have listened to his words of council and good cheer. He was always ready to lend an helping hand to those less fortunate then himself.
The remains were followed to Lake Cemetery by an large score of sorrowing relatives and friend who paid their last respects.
Reverend Felix Arceneaux rendered an beautiful sermon. Deceased leaves to mourn his lost a wife, and ten children. Mrs. Luther Smiley, Mrs. Celestin Lobell, Mrs. Adele Round, Mrs. Joe Villar, Mrs. Henry Salassi, Mrs. George Roddy, Mrs Cleo Jarreau, Messrs. Martin, Leonce and Albert Mayers. And 41 grand children children, 12 great grand children, 3 step children and 18 great step grandchildren.
