ELIZABETHTON,TN--Mr. Jack D. Young, 90, of Elizabethton, died Sunday in Hermitage Health Center.

He was born in Carter County, TN, and was the son of the late Sam H. Young, Sr., and Rose Ann Dugger Young.

Mr. Young graduated from Elizabethton High School and E.T.S.U. with a degree in Chemistry. He also attended the University of Tennessee. He worked for over 30 years at Eastman Chemical Company, retiring in 1981. Mr. Young was a member of Southside Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a squad leader with the rank of Sergeant in the Chemical Corp. He was action in Salerno, Italy and the Anzo Beach Head.

Mr. Young was an avid hiker and photographer and had been a member of the Tennessee Eastman Hiking Club.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Young, Jr., and two sisters, Iva Gouge White and Emma Ilene Young.

Survivors include two brothers, Joseph C. Young (wife-Willamae), Somerville, Ohio, and Bill Young (wife-Martha), Elizabethton; one sister, Elizabeth Young Brackman (husband-Alan), Muncie, IN; 21 nieces and nephews; and 35 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral service for Mr. Jack D. Young will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Koruschak and Mr. Alan Brackman, ministers, officiating. Eulogy will be given by his nephew, Dr. Keith Young. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Charles Dugger.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the funeral services or at the residence of his brother, Bill Young, at other times.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49. Active pallbearers will be selected from nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Southside Christian Church. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

Arrangements for the Young family have been entrusted to Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home.
