He was born June 28, 1924 in Linton, the son of William J. and Conza M. (McCammon) Roberts.
He was a retired insurance agent for Western & Southern Life Insurance Company, after working for 27 years. He had also worked at the Linton Hardware and Linton Glass. He was a member of the Linton Church of Christ, the F&AM Lodge #560 & American Legion Post #22, both of Linton, and the Scottish Rite of Terre Haute. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in India and Burma.
Survivors include his wife: Dorothy L. (Sims) Roberts whom he married Jan. 11, 1947; a son Gary (Vickie) Roberts of Linton; a daughter Marcia (Garth) Ries of Argenta, IL; a brother Raymond "Bud" (Nelda) Barnard of Dugger; a sister Connie Jewell of Linton; three sisters-in-law, Georgia Roberts of Linton and Violet Henson and Sandy Barnard of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Troy (Kathy) Roberts of Linton, Travis (Mindy) Roberts of Brownsburg, and Ethan Padgett of Argenta, IL; four great-grandchildren, Madison Roberts, Megan Roberts, Nolan Roberts and Gavin Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his father William J. Roberts; his mother Conza M. Barnard; his step-father, Raymond Barnard; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Roberts and Larry Joe Barnard; a sister Mary Helen Massey; and a granddaughter Heather Padgett.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Pat Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
The Linton American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with Masonic services at 7 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
