Mrs. J. W. McGuire, Pioneer Resident, Called by Death
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Arcadia Methodist church for Mrs. Lillie Holland McGuire, age 82 years, pioneer resident of Arcadia, who died at a Shreveport sanitarium Sunday, October 7, at 5:20 p.m. following a long illness.
Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Mayne, pastor of the Arcadia Methodist church. Interment was in the Arcadia cemetery with Conger funeral home of Arcadia in charge.
Pallbearers were: A. G. Marsalis, R. Hightower, H. D. Butler, Bert Davis, H. D. Shehee, L. E. Ozley, Carl Goff and B. R. Felts.
Mrs. McGuire was a lifelong resident of Arcadia, her father, Allen Holland being a large land owner and one of the founders of the town of Old Arcadia. She was married in 1882 to Johns W. McGuire, who died in the year 1933.
Mr. and Mrs. McGuire were the parents of five children, P. A., D. R. and S. J. McGuire, Mrs. R. H. Madden and Miss Jewel McGuire, all of whom survive them, except P. A. McGuire, who died in the year 1930. Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive them.
