TOWN'S FIRST CITIZEN DIED ON WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Sarah Reynolds Madden First Child Born In Arcadia.

All Arcadia was grieved Wednesday morning to learn of the death of Mrs. Sarah Reynolds Madden, the town's true pioneer, who passed away at her home in south Arcadia, following an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Madden, 87 years, ten months, and six days old at the time of her death, was the first child born in Arcadia, on April 28, 1847. She was the daughter of Allen Holland, one of the first settlers of the community, and her estate still holds some of the original Holland land, upon which he first settled.

The deceased was also the oldest member of the First Baptist church of Arcadia, having affiliated with that institution in 1875, and during her entire life was a devoted worker in the church, a faithful Christian woman, and her influence in Arcadia has been one of inspiration to those younger members.

She was married in 1868 to Louis Reynolds, and was the mother of one son, Ben Allen Reynolds, born in 1870. The son died April 18, 1904. Mr. Reynolds also preceded her in death.

Deceased was married to Tate W. Madden in 1914, and Mr. Madden died sixteen years ago.

"Aunt Sarah" was known and loved by all Arcadia, and numbered as her cherished friends all the pioneers of the section. She was a sister to Mrs. Lillie McGuire of Arcadia, and an aunt to S. J. McGuire and Miss Jewel McGuire, local business people.

Funeral services for Mrs. Madden were held at her home this morning at 10 o'clock, with the Rev. W. T. Strain of Simsboro officiating. Interment was in the Arcadia cemetery, with Conger funeral home in charge.
