Ernest Bilton Stone, 83, died peacefully early Friday morning, December 31, 2010 at his home in Riverton, Utah.
Ernie, nicknamed "Buster" by his sisters.
Born and raised in Baxter Springs, Kansas, the son of Edith Gertrude Skaggs and William Goff Stone, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers - Charles, Robert, Merle; sisters - Dollie, Betty, Edna and Ruth; and former wife Helen Burget Stone. After graduating from high school, Ernie served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1945 to 1946. He attended Diablo Valley Junior College in Concord, California where he played his beloved sport of football. His abilities allowed him to procure a football scholarship to attend Stanford University, where he received a B.A. degree in Economics in 1956.
After graduation, Ernie went to work for Shell Oil Co., Agricultural Division, until he retired in 1980. After retiring from Shell, Ernie not only stayed busy as a Real Estate Agent, Broker and Appraiser, he also served as mayor of Mannford, Oklahoma for a few years. He was a lifetime member of the Stanford Alumni Assn, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Republican National Committee (Eisenhower Commission), Concord California Masonic Lodge, and Oklahoma Shrine. In his later years, Ernie entertained friends and family with his weekly football prediction newsletter filled with humorous quips and sharp witted commentary, which he aptly named "Couch Potato." Always the lover of people and youthful in heart and mind, he kept up with his children, grandchildren, friends and family on Facebook, which of course, earned him the title of the coolest Grandpa ever. In honor of Ernest B. Stone and to celebrate his life, a private service was held on January 4, 2011 at Broomhead Funeral Home, Riverton, Utah.
