The old adage that death loves a shining mark is seldom more forcibly exemplified that it was at 12:20 p. m., on Thursday Jan. 24, 1894 when Mr. Alexander Kalbaugh, of Cross, this county, quietly passed away from the cares and sufferings of this life, to live in that Mansion not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Mr. Kalbaugh was one among the most prominent citizens of Mineral county, his circle of relatives and friends being very large. He was a man of sterling qualities and upright character and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years, holding membership with the church at Cross at time of his death. Mr. Kalbaugh was about 66 years of age. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, the services taking place at the M.E. church, Piedmont, Rev. Wm. Mellammock of Elk Garden, delivered an able and appropriate sermon, after which remarks were were made by Rev. Alex. Bielaski and H H. Kight testifying to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Rev. Wm. Kight also assisted. The interment was made in Philos cemetery. The attendance was very large, the spacious church being crowded. A special train was run from Elk Garden for the occasion.The active pall bearers were Mesara, Frank Dixon, Stephen Dixon, Jas. Rankin, Jas Simpson, Jas Loy and Danirl Curtly. Honorary, Messra, J. S. Jameson, G. W. Harrison, U. B. MeCandliah, W. T. Blackiaton, G. W. Spangler and E. J. Fredlock.
