Leopold was born in Lage, Germany. He was the son of David and Elka Werthan Rosenthal. His siblings were: Hulda Rosenthal; Zigfried Rosenthal; Dina Zilversmit; Karl Rosenthal; Rosalie Rosenthal; Yosef (Hugo) Yashuvi (Rosenthal); Leopold Rosenthal; Georg Rosenthal (Leo's twin); Grete Rosenthal and Alma Rosenthal. Leo served in the German Military during World War I.
In August 1920, he married Meta Stern. They had 3 children together. Wayne was born August 20, 1921. A daughter was their second child, but she died at a young age. Then was Edgar Rosenthal, born September 22, 1927. In 1939, Leo spent 6 weeks in a concentration camp in Germany, but was released based on his ranking in the Germany military during the First World War. Several days later, Meta, the 2 children, and Leo left Germany for the United States. They entered in NY, and settled in Providence, RI, USA. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA, USA in 1950. Leo did shoe repair for a living.
