Mrs. Lawther, 91, died of natural causes Thursday at Walnut Place senior citizens home.
She was born in Celeste, Texas, and came to Dallas about 1911 to earn her teaching degree at Southern Methodist University.
After Mrs. Lawther graduated from SMU, she began teaching in the Dallas school system. She first taught art at Lipscomb Elementary School and later became an English teacher at Oak Cliff High School.
During World War II, Mrs. Lawther trained soldiers in electronics.
After the war, she taught English and art at Spence Middle School. She retired in the early 1960s.
Mrs. Lawther was a volunteer for the Dallas Community Chest after her retirement.
She is survived by her sister, Aileen Connelly of Dallas.
