Dies At Age 85

J. Madison Dietrich, 85, formerly of Lititz, died at
6:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Pleasant View Rest
Home, Manheim R5, where he had been a guest the past
three years.

He was the husband of Edna Wenger Dietrich, who also resides at the home. He
was born In Earl Township, a son of the late Madison and Lydia Ann Smith Dietrich.

He was an unsuccessful candidate for the State Senate on the Democratic
ticket in 1942. He was active in Democratic politics for a number of years, and served as chaplain for the Guy K. Bard Northern Lancaster County Democratic Club.

He served as deputy collector of Internal Revenue at the Lancaster and Philadelphia offices during the Wilson administrations.

A retired farmer, he also worked for 12 years as the assistant supervisor of
county highways. He also was a schoolteacher.

He was a member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren, where he was a
Sunday School teacher for 40 years. He was an honorary teacher of the Rose of Sharon Sunday School class and an honorary member of the Brickerville Fire Co.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Jane Neal, Lititz; four sons, James M., Lancaster; Robert W., Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Stanley W.,
LaGrange, Ill; Kenneth W., Manheim R5; nine grand-children and two great-
Grandchildren

The funeral was held from the Lititz Church of the Brethren on Jan. 30. Interment at Groffdale Mennonite Cemetery. Funeral arrangements from Spacht Funeral Home.
