OBITUARY:
James Madison Dietrich, Civil War Veteran

James Madison Dietrich, 77 years, 10 months and 28 days, died Sunday morning at 4 o'clock, at his home on East Main street, Lititz, from the effects of a stroke suffered about two weeks ago. He was born near Voganville and resided there until six years ago, when he moved to Mechanicsburg, and later to Lititz. He served throughout the war as a teamster to transfer ammunition to the front, and once had three mules killed in his team and another time an animal was shot on which he was riding. He was a plasterer and cigar màker by trade. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lititz. He is survived by his wife who before marriage was Lydia Smith and six children: Andrew J., of Detroit, Mich.; Mollie, of Lancaster; Mazzie, wife of Harry Herr, of Millway; Amos W., of Lititz; Carrie, wife of John Ludwig, of Voganville; J. Madison, of Lititz. Thirty-two grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two brothers, Sanderson, of Philadelphia; and Daniel, of Lancaster, also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the home and at the Groffdale Mennonite church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
