Mr. Carl Lester Barr, age 95, of East Brocktown Road, Moravian Falls died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 3:00 PM, February 10, 2010 at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 3 prior to the service.

Mr. Barr was born June 28, 1914 in Ashe County to Harrison and Rose Love Barr. He came to Wilkes County in 1943. He was a brick mason and helped build many of the existing building in Wilkes County. During his life, Mr. Barr served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, worked in the shipyards in Baltimore and also grew apples.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Mary Bell Eldreth Barr and a daughter, Wilma Lee Fuhr.

He is survived by: eight daughters, Peggy DuVall and husband, Brown of Landis, NC, Elma Jean Morrison and husband, Bobby of Cleveland, NC, Helen Barr of Landis and Moravian Falls, Bobbie Blevins, Shirley Rosellen Blevins and husband, Lewis all of Moravian Falls, Linda Crumpton and husband, John of Durham, NC, Carol Hinckley and husband, Ron of Charlotte, Christie Smith and husband, Jeff of Raleigh; three sons, Dean Barr and wife, Annie of Hiddenite, Jack Barr and wife, Bebbie of North Wilkesboro, Steve Barr and wife, Lisa of Charlotte; two sisters, Lillie Frazier of Moravian Falls, Esta Patton of Lansing; two brothers, Jim Barr of Moravian Falls, Denver Barr of Hiddenite; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
