Richard was very active in South Kingstown for a number of years. He retired from the Wakefield Trust Co as Vice President and Trust officer, and also ran the Babcock and Helliwell Insurance Company with his brother in law John Edward Babcock Jr 22988557. He was a trustee of the South Kingstown Public Library, and was active in many of the civic associations of his day.
