Jesse was born to Horatio "Bub" and Sarah (Gentry) Douglas. Siblings were Thomas, Rachel, Grace Douglas and half siblings Lily, Mary and George, Charles, Reede, and August Smith. When a young man, he moved to Golconda where he purchased a barber shop which was his trade for near 50 years til ill health forced his retirement. He married Eula M. Phelps on March 4, 1912. To this happy union, three chilren were born, Louise, Frances, and J. Robert. He was a member of Golconda Lodge No. 131, Golconda Odd Fellow Lodge receiving his 50 year pin, and a big Cardinal baseball fan.
