DEATH of FORMER CITIZEN
J. A. Cook, know to his many old time friends here as "Jerry", passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B. F. Thompson in Brookfield last Sunday morning at the age of 80 years. Fifty years ago the family resided in Laclede. Mr. Cook in track service of Burlington in which he continued for 42 years, retiring in 1921.
Jeremiah Amelius, son of Daniel and Catherine Macklin Cook, was born in Jay county, Indiana, September 16, 1853. Sixty-four years ago he came to Missouri with his parents and they located on a Chariton county farm. On April 29, 1875, he was united in marriage with Aditha V. Cole, in Chariton county and to this union seven children were born, of whom five survive, Mrs. Georgia Thompson, of Brookfield; Mrs. Catheryn Gilman, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Ida Kerr, of Cantril, Iowa; Mrs. Nira Carroll of Vallejo, California, and Mrs. Isabel Davis of New Boston, There are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Dever of Brookfield, and Mrs. Dora Field, of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral was held in Brookfield Tuesday afternoon and the remains brought to Laclede for burial beside the wife who preceded him in death in 1927.
