Obituary

An Unexpected Summons

Citizens of Chetek were painfully shocked Monday morning when they learned that in the first hour of the morning, Death had come to summon Mrs. Chas. Dean a pioneer of Barron county and highly respected citizen of this place.
Mrs. Dean was taken ill last Tuesday, pneumonia developed and because of the strong grip which the disease had taken, her system was unable to withstand the shock. Many will mourn her unexpected death. She had been faithful to every duty in the home, and had been loved and esteemed by her children and the friends of her acquaintance.
The deceased was born in Marcellon, Wis., July 7, 1848. In 1869 she was united in marriage to Chas. Dean, moving to the town of Chetek in 1872.

Ten children were born to them, eight of whom survive, Mrs. Levi Ellis, Ferndale, Wash.; Ralph Dean of Forest Grove, Oreg.; Mrs. Mary Kobliska of Weyerhaeuser; Mrs. Carrie Malaska of Duluth, Minn.; Harvey, Wallie, Effie and Mable of Chetek.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Advent Christian church, Rev. C.W. Brown officiating. The bearers were B.L. Eighmy, E. Van Valkenberg, C.N. Strong, C.L. Brekken, T.W. Reardon and M.W. Reardon. Interment was made in Lake View cemetery.

There was a large crowd at the funeral, many coming from Maple Grove where Mrs. Dean had lived for many years. Friends here extend their heartfelt sympathy to those bereft. [Friday, March 3, 1911, Chetek Alert, Chetek, Wisconsin.]
