Elder William E. Gosnell, 77, pastor for the past forty years of the Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren, died Wednesday, August 8, 1951, at 4 P. M. at the Frederick Memorial hospital. Stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday at his home, Mt. Airy R. D. 2, near Taylorsville, Elder Gosnell fell down a flight of stairs, fracturing his collar bone and hip.
The deceased was a native of Carroll county and a son of the late Ambrose and Elizabeth (Nusbaum) Gosnell. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Olga (Conaway) Gosnell: twelve children: Howard H. and Joseph B., near Taylorsville; Rhoda V. and Walter R., at home; Esther J., Mary E. and James W., Chicago, Ill.; Herman M., Lynchburg, Va.; Virgie M., Washington, D. C; John W., Cloverdale, Va.; Fred A., Germantown, and Wilbur S. Gosnell, Glenarm, and six grandchildren.
Elder Gosnell's body was taken at 10 A. M. Saturday to the Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren, where services were held at 11 A.M. The Rev. Paul Fike officiated, assisted by the Rev. Dr. E. C. Bixler, both Church of the Brethren ministers. Burial was in Sam's Creek cemetery. D. D. Hartzler & Son, funeral directors.
