Will of George H. F. Thornton

I George H. F. Thornton of Oldham county and State of Kentucky being low in health but of sound mind do make and declare this my last will and testament: after most de: ? commending my soul to Almighty God I will and direct that all my just debts shall be paid after the payment of my just debts I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Harriet the one third part of all my estate both real and personal during her life or in ? thereof at her option a reasonable annual allowance for her support to be paid by my execution, which latter provision I wish her to accept the balance of my estate and at the death of my said wife the whole I will and bequeath to my son Charles Henry; and in case of his death without a legal heir I direct that the said property be equally divided between my brothers Charles Thornton, John Thornton, Francis Thornton and William Thornton, and my sisters Henrietta Taliaferro and Catharine Fitzhugh. I do hereby appoint my brother William F. Thornton sole executor to this my last will; requesting him and hereby authorizing him take my son, and the property herein bequeathed to him under his care and charge to raise and educate my said son and to manage the said property either by selling it for money to be put out at interest or by retaining said property for his use as to him my said executor may seem best. In case of my wifes preferring an annual allowance to her thirds, I direct my executor to take the said thirds and appropriate them as directed in the case of my sons property allowing my said wife a reasonable annual sum for their support. Having the most entire confidence in my aforesaid executor it is my will to invest him with the most unlimited power to manage my estate in the way that may seem best to him to promote the interest of my wife and child: and moreover I do request the honorable County Court of Oldham to disperse with his giving security for the performance of his duties as executor. Witness my hand and seal this 10th day of August 1829. G.H.F. Thornton

Kentucky C. At a county court for the County of Oldham on the 21st day of September 1829. this last will and testament of George H.F. Thornton deceased was produced in court and proved to be such by the oaths of Francis Taylor and William H. Talbott subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and accordingly recorded.
