Elvin Ray Beitzel [Salibury]

SALISBURY, Pa. — Elvin Ray Beitzel, 83, of Salisbury, Pa., died peacefully at his home on Friday, June 11, 2010, after a battle with cancer.
Born on July 24, 1926, in Accident, he was the son of the late Edwin and Arminta (Maust) Beitzel. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vernie and Bertha, two brothers, Vernon and Marvin, a sister-in-law, Mary and a nephew, Stanley.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rhoda Vera (Eichorn) Beitzel; 4 sons, Leroy (Mary), of Manheim, Pa., Melvin (Gloria), of Salisbury, Pa., James (Linda), of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Richard (Esther), of Meyersdale, Pa.; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a very special niece and nephew, Diane and Roger Beitzel.
Elvin was a Christian and an active member of the Maple Glen Mennonite Church, serving in many ways. He, along with Vera, especially enjoyed cooking and serving meals for many groups and organizations. Because of his love of music and concern for others, he was a part of many groups who sang in various nursing homes and hospitals. He was actively involved with Gideon's International for many years.
Elvin was a dairy farmer, worked in maintenance at the Goodwill Mennonite Home and in his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and yard work.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for all the love, prayers and concern shown to them through this time of illness and loss.
Memorial donations may be made to Gideon's International or In Touch Hospice of Somerset Hospital.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Sunday, June 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the Maple Glen Mennonite Church, Grantsville, on Monday, June 14, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Philip Moser officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Maple Glen Cemetery.
