"Judge not that ye be not judged," (Matthew 7:1-3).
John Alton Rogers was a brother & alleged murderer of Eugenia's husband Love Rogers who was killed on 18 Nov 1922. Love's body was found buried in a corn field nearly a year later on 14 Oct 1923. A verdict of murder was quickly made by the Coroner's Jury, and Love's body was laid to rest in the cemetery on 16 Oct 1923. We don't know the circumstances of the murder, or any trial beyond the coroner's jury. Newspaper articles written to sensationalize the event were carelessly written with wildly conflicting facts. But John Alton Rogers and Lovie were both arrested in connection with the murder. After a relatively short time, they were both released from prison. (In the 1930 census, their two children Glenn and Mattie were found living in California, apparently being raised by Love's brother Homer Irbie Rogers & his wife Mabel.) John was killed in a train accident in 1932. John's resting place is marked with a beautiful tombstone honoring his WWI service in the United States Marine Corps. Eugenia went on to marry Karl Beaser, and Eugenia's resting place is also honored with a beautiful marker, which is inscribed with "Beloved Wife." Eugenia's son, Rev. Glenn Rogers is also laid to rest in the same cemetery as Eugenia. May she rest in peace.
