Daughter of Gilbert & Missouri Lane Anderson, spouse of E. P. Halsey
THE MARRIAGE OF ELLIS PAUL HALSEY & MARY ELVIRA ANDERSON by Richard Halsey, the son of Paul & Mary (written in memory of her on her birthday, 15 Dec 2022):
On this day December 15 , 1903 in Grayson County, Virginia mostly likely in a small log cabin, Gilbert Sylvester Anderson and Missouri Lane Anderson welcomed their second daughter whom they named Mary Elvira Anderson. Mary would live to be oldest of 3 surviving out of 5 children. She would become oldest half sister to 10 more sibling of which 6 would survive for many years and only 1 remains.
Mary would marry Ellis Paul Halsey (known by Paul ) on February 18, 1922 in Pine Branch Baptist Parsonage. Her father found out they were eloping and his brother, Staley was going to sign for her. He hurried to the Parsonage and signed for her to marry. They had 7 children, 6 who were born in Grayson County, Virginia and 1 born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. They were married 51 years before Paul was called home to Heaven on July 7, 1973. Mary joined him in Heaven on September 23, 1985.
Kingsley Cemetery at Townville is their bodies resting place awaiting the Trumpet of the Lord calling their bodies forth to a new glorified body in Heaven. But thankful that our souls are present with the Lord worshipping the Lord. "For to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord." *
There had been confusion over the years as to my grandmother's middle name. Was it Alvira or Elvira? I have been able to verify it was Elvira. This is reinforced by the Paul & Mary Halsey Family Bible which is now in the possession of one of their sons and of which I have copies. Their Bible clearly says, "Mary Elvira Anderson, born December 15, 1903." While Alvira has never been a family name, Mary's grandmother was Thursey Elvira (Parks) Lane, leading one to consider that grandma's middle name was in memory of her grandmother, having been given that name by her mother, Missouri (Lane) Anderson.
