Son of Richard Miller Harper and Catharine (a/k/a Kethern in the Harper family bible) Shaw Harper.


Married first to Elizabeth Beckley, then to Elizabeth Arnold.

With Elizabeth Beckley Harper (she died in 1869 in Hillsboro, Henry county, Iowa), there were these children: Fidelia Harper(1855-1883), John Miller Harper (1857-1930), Jacob Franklin Harper (1858-1859), and Emma Harper (1862-1867).

With Elizabeth Arnold Harper two sons were born: Onslow Arnold Harper and Alphonso King Harper.

This branch of the Harper family that established themselves in Fairfield, Iowa went on to become very active in business and community interests. The son, Alphonso King Harper (a/k/a A.K. Harper) founded the Harper Brush Company, which still exists in Fairfield as of 2011, although most of the Harper family has left the business per se.
