William Brooks Anderson Sr., 88, passed away Wednesday October 12 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Evans County native lived in Claxton most of his life. He was of Baptist Faith. He left Claxton at the age of 18 and went to Washington, D.C. He worked for the ice company in Washington, D.C., buying his first residence on Pennsylvania Avenue. He lived in Bladeburg, Maryland for 30 years. He moved back to Claxton in 1968. He was owner and operator of Anderson Steel Company in Claxton, but most of his work was in Savannah. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Surviving are three sons, William Brooks (Ann) Anderson Jr., Gerald (Sandy) Anderson, all of Claxton, Bobby (Phyllis) Anderson of Maryland; three daughters, Shirley Ann Schneider, Barbra Anderson, both from Tennessee, and Bonnie Mae (Denzel) Messer from Eleary, Ohio; one brother, Larry (Nancy) Anderson of Claxton, several grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 11 a.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Brewton Cemetery. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
