Joseph Hathaway was the son of Benjamin (1699 MA - 1762 NJ) and his unknown first wife. He married Sarah Lyon on November 15, 1753. He served in the Morris County (NJ) militia and as a matros in Captain Neil's Artillery, NJ State Troops during the American Revolution. He died before August 7, 1776 of dysentery.
