Carl J. Bek, 87, of Winterset, died Nov. 20, 1994 at the Community Care Center in Winterset. Funeral services will be today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Pastor William L. Johnson will officiate with burial at the Union Chapel Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 24, 1907 in Cass County to Chris C. and Pearl (Erickson) Bek. He married Ernestine Mary Handel in Indianola on April 26, 1946. He was employed several years by the Union State Bank in Winterset until he began farming in Scott Township. He was a resident of Madison County for most of his life. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God and the National Farmers Organization.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother; and two sisters.

Surviving relatives include one son, Nicholas C. Bek of St. Charles; two daughters, Annabel Johnson and husband William of Big Sandy, Texas, and Jane Bek of Downers Grove, Ill.; one brother, Joe Bek and wife Mildred of Boone; one sister, Maxine Bruett and husband Cliff of Winterset; two sister-in-laws, Fransis (Francis) Bek of Winterset and Maxine Handel of Mr. (Mt.) Vernon, Ind; and two grandchildren.
