David F. Steffy, formerly of Gettysburg and New Oxford, who was register and recorder of Adams county from 1905 to 1908, died Friday at the home of his daughter, Miss Marie B. Steffy, 210 South 51st street, Philadelphia. He observed his ninety-seventh birthday anniversary last Saturday and received a greeting from President Roosevelt on that occasion.
Mr. Steffy moved here from New Oxford and resided in the county seat during his term of office at the court house and for some time thereafter.
He was active for many years in democratic politics in this county.
He moved to Philadelphia about 25 years ago and had resided there since with members of his family.
William M. Steffy, for whom the local post of the United Spanish War Veterans is named, was a son of David Steffy.
Besides his daughter with whom he lived, he is survived by a son, Richard F. Steffy, Martinsburg, West Virginia: six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Charles W. Stock, East Middle street, is a niece.
The deceased was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic church during his residence here.
Requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 o'clock Monday morning at St. Francis deSales Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia. Interment will be made in New Oxford.
