CARL "CHARLEY" CARLSON (79) b. Aug. 14, 1870 Vollsjo, Sjöbo kommun, Skåne län, Sweden d. April 9, 1949 Clinton, Big Stone County, Minnesota, the third of eleven children born to Nils Carlsson (1838-1927) and Bengta Mårtensdotter (1845-1918).

He came to the U.S. at the age of 19 + 11 months with his family and they settled on a farm near Ortonville, Big Stone County MN. Later Charley purchased a farm near Clinton, MN and about 1900 married ROSE DANIELSON, daughter of John Danielson. Both Charley and Rose's parents were Swedish immigrants.

On cold winter days, Charley would take his five children to school in a bobsled drawn by horses wearing musical Swedish sleigh bells. The bells announced their arrival into town. The first ones to "catch a ride" would be the A.K. Olson kids. By the time they got to school, they had a full load.

Charley and Rose remained in the Clinton area until their deaths. Both died of congestive heart failure. Charley's profession was a farmer.
