Prominent Resident of Homer Dies of Infirmities of Old Age: Dr. Israel A. Powell, one of the best known residents of Homer, died at 4:25 o'clock this morning from the infirmities incident to old age. The deceased was born August 25, 1825 in the State of Kentucky. He moved when quite young to Gibson County, Indiana, and thence in 1843 to Lawrence County, Illinois, where he studied medicine and practiced for five years. In 1867 he moved to Olney, Ill., conducting a drug store there and another at Vincennes, Ind., until 187[illegible]. He was the first legislature under the new constitution. He was then appointed collector of internal revenue for the eleventh Illinois by President Grant and later was employed in one of the departments at Washington returning to this place from the capital six or seven years ago. Mr. Powell was first married at Lawrenceville to his [illegible] Miss Adeline Badollet who died in 1856 leaving him with two sons, Medford, of S. Evanston, and Lewis who lives in Chicago. In 185[illegible] he was married again, his second wife being Parmelia Riley of Hartford, Conn. who survives. Four half sisters and one half brother also survive.
